One size does not fit all!

by Raven Taylor

If you google ‘Better Tights’ the first thing that jumps out is this tagline- ‘one size does not fit all’- and that’s what first drew me in. I’m a fan of tights, always have been, I wore them every day during my time working in a busy retail environment, but my experience of this particular item of clothing was never smooth. On a good day I might just have to put up with my tights bunching round the ankles (I’m a relatively short person and every pair of tights I owned seemed to be made for people with long legs) or that uncomfortable feeling of the waist band digging in. On bad days it was the dreaded sagging crotch, resulting in me constantly grasping and tugging at the waist band as my tights slowly slipped lower and lower until I feared I was going to loose them completely and end up waddling around with them round my ankles. Nothing strikes fear into my heart more than seeing a pair of tights (or any clothes for that matter!) marked ‘one size fits all’. It simply doesn’t work. People are not all one size.

So when I saw that tagline ‘one size does not fit all’, well I had to investigate further.  Before I even got as far as the sizing, I was struck when entering the website with the images of the models showcasing the products. I knew straight away this brand was something different- the front page screamed diversity with people of different sizes, colours, styles and that really appealed to me. After having a good browse at what was on offer (no one size fits all in sight!) my next port of call was the find your fit page. The sizing chart took into account my dress size and my height to allow me to easily calculate what size would be best for me (I went for ‘Quattro’). Not only were these tights not one size fits all but they also went a step beyond the usual ‘small, medium, large’ which, let’s face it, is only marginally better.

As I waited for my tights to arrive I was still a little sceptical. Would they really be that different? Would the problems of sagging and bunching actually  be a thing of the past? Initial impressions were good. When I pulled on my first pair (pictured - a simple sand colour in 50 denier, perfect for the busy day I had ahead) I noticed immediately that the leg length was so much better and that I didn’t have the usual excess material around my ankles and knees. I went about my day, and guess what? I did not once have to fish around down my skirt to retrieve the waste band to stop them going south. Nor did I feel like my middle was being squeezed like a tube of tooth paste. I was just comfortable. They actually fit. You could tell they had been designed with this in mind. It was a refreshing change to be able to go about my day not constantly aware of my ill fitting clothes. At last someone is challenging the dreaded one size fits all, and winning!
