Striving to do things 'Better'...

Image
by Raven Taylor When I received my first pair of Better Tights, bought on a whim after searching for something that might actually fit, the first thing that struck me was something very simple: the packaging. You wouldn’t think such a seemingly insignificant thing could spark such joy but the sheer simplicity of receiving a pair of tights without a single bit of plastic in the packaging was a most welcome change. Each pair was wrapped in brown paper and sealed with a little sticker detailing the size and style. And that was it. No cellophane windows, no plastic hanging tag, nothing. Everything could be tossed straight in the paper recycling bin, or even composted! I wish more companies would get on board with this kind of thing. But I should I have known this would be the case. Better Tights is a company that is getting a lot of things right. One glance at the gorgeous models in all shapes, sizes and colours that adorn the home page of their  website tells you...

Why I still wear tights

Why I still wear tights, by Bellatrix LaMode If there is one fashion rule that has me utterly perplexed it is the current opinion of popular stylists that wearing tights is a big no-no.  I happened upon a couple of fashion how-to books that mentioned several times that wearing pantyhose is dreadfully out of date. Wearing them makes you look “like an old lady.” Bare legs give us that “young and hip” look. Oh, really?    Fashion guru (and a designer for a line of Target brand fashions) Isaac Mizrahi in his book “How to Find Your Style” says he is adamant about NO PANTYHOSE (especially nude) EVER! I thought, OK, one man’s opinion.  But then I read “How Not to Look Old” by Charla Krupp. Here’s what she says about wearing pantyhose:  “My biggest legwear challenge is what to do when it’s freezing out and I’m all dressed up. I do try to go bare legged for evening whenever possible, but when heading out the door in subfreezing temperatures,...

Embrace your individuality!

by Raven Taylor Better tights are a company that are getting a lot of things right. They promote body positivity and use real women in their marketing shoots, they are passionate about sustainability and best of all they have ditched the one size fits all approach, which is an absolute blessing. Their products are also surprisingly well made and promise to last a while due to a technique called 3D knitting (I don’t pretend to know exactly what this is but apparently it means your tights keep their shape and won’t ladder the first time you put them on). This is all great, and while all of these factors were a huge draw for me, I still want to be able to look stylish while saving the planet and feeling comfortable, so while we’ve established that Better are killing it when it comes to ethics, how are they doing when it comes to style? We all need our classics, our staple tans and blacks for work and more formal occasions, and while all of these are available Bett...

Sheer tights are perfect for adding a touch of elegance to any outfit, while fishnet tights can bring a bold and edgy vibe. If you're feeling playful, consider trying out patterned tights such as lace, polka dots, or stripes to add a fun element to your look. One of the best things about tights is their versatility.
